UPNA and VET students work together to solve a sustainability challenge proposed by AN Group

A total of 25 students from different degrees of the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) and Vocational Training (VET), from CENIFER (Imárcoain) and IES Ega (San Adrián) schools, participated in a workshop held on the Arrosadia campus. During this day, they worked on the resolution of a real challenge related to sustainability, proposed by the AN Group.

The methodology applied in the workshop held at the UPNA, known as CRE8, was designed by the University of Karlstad (Sweden), which is part of the ARIES4 project. The students were organised into five interdisciplinary groups and relied solely on their creativity as the main tool for tackling the challenge: how to position meat as a quality, ethical and sustainable option in the context of the growth of plant-based alternatives. For three hours, they worked with flipcharts or whiteboards and markers, using them to analyse the problem and come up with possible solutions.

A jury composed of Maite Muruzabal Muruzabal (director of the AN Group Foundation), Sandra Aguirre Sainz (manager of the Agri-Food Cluster of Navarra - Nagrifood), Miren Ausín Lecuna (director of the International Projection Service of the Department of Industry and Ecological and Digital Business Transition of the Government of Navarra) and Martin Larraza Kintana (vice-rector of Quality, Economy and Strategy of the UPNA and director of the ARIES4 project) listened to the presentations of the five groups and decided which of them best solved the challenge. In the opinion of this panel of experts, all five groups came up with useful and innovative ideas. Prior to this activity, Lucía Nieto Sádaba, head of the University Laboratory for the Creation of Innovative Companies (LUCE) of the UPNA and the European Business and Innovation Centre of Navarre (CEIN), was in charge of motivating and promoting the first synergies among the students through a talk on creativity.

The UPNA students participating in the workshop came from the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, the School of Industrial, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering (ETSIIIT) and the School of Agricultural Engineering and Biosciences (ETSIAB).
